Hayrides All DayThe lambs, goats, chickens, guineas, puppies and big dogs are all preening for the upcoming festival. They love to show off for everyone. The Mayhaw Trees are certainly showing their best side. The trees are beautifully covered with green leaves but most importantly they are full of fruit  All this rain has filled the pond to capacity and our gathering crew is watching closely for the first berry to float in the water. We hope it is not too soon. It is a lot of fun to see the harvest and the berry cleaning process which we would like to happen during the festival.

Vendor invites are going out and we’ve already heard from some of the regulars. You know there will be jewelry, honey, jelly, soap, vegetables, eggs, and a variety of other local  goodies. The hayride is set to go and we always have the petting place to show off the lambs and goats. The Great Pyrenees puppies will still be on hand. Several are not going to new homes after the festival. Old faithful Phony Pony is still in action. It is always popular with the young children.

2014 Jefferson County Extension celebrates 100 years of service. There will be a special workshop during the festival called Girls with Hammers as part of the celebration. Each participant will build a bookshelf and will go home with their own project. Girls of all ages are invited to become involved. There is no charge. All tool handling will be closely monitored. It will be a bang-up day of fun.

Jefferson County Tourist Development Council is helping us this year. Our goal is to bring more people than ever to Jefferson County and to the Mayhaw Berry Festival. We would appreciate your passing along the information. Please encourage your fiends to come and join us. Another event Southern Music Rising is happening this same weekend. So lots of reasons to come and spend the night. We have hotels, motels, campgrounds and B&B’s with plenty of beds for the weary head after a fun filled day.

Did you know it is only a 12 hour drive from central Ohio to Golden Acres Ranch?

By the way, Myrtle Creek Farms is having an Open House at their place May 3. The weekend before the Mayhaw Berry Festival. Charissa and I will be there to sell some jelly and tell everyone about the festival. Can’t miss an opportunity to market. Myrtle Creek raises some fabulous blueberries. This is a good chance to see their great place. You can check them out on Facebook.com/Myrtle Creek Farm
