Wow, the farm tour is over, Thanksgiving holidays have passed and things are getting back to “normal”. Whatever normal is! Every day is filled and still passes by quickly but we do have time to sneak in a nap now and then… and we have some fun company right now. Christine, our oldest daughter, is here from California and daughter-in-law Rissa is here from Alaska with our youngest granddaughter. Her name is Melissa Elizabeth but she is fondly called Mimi by all.

The early part of this month I did travel further south to spend a weekend with daughter Marcia at her citrus farm. We traveled to see grandson Tim in Orlando to eat at the new restaurant, Eddie V’s. Excellent food and service. Marcia did a “selfie” of us at the lake gazebo by the restaurant. You can see us on Facebook.

The next day we went to Pompano Beach to have a late Thanksgiving dinner served by granddaughter Anna and her friends. Food and company was outstanding.

Mom, We're hidingThis was a last summer was a rough one. The constant rain is now over although we are getting some rain weekly which is a good thing for winter growing season. Winter is slowly creeping into the area with temperatures ranging from low 30’s to highs in the 70’s, to our readers further north, that is cold for us.

The goats are really enjoying the cool snaps. There is a lot of head butting, jumping at each other and hopping on the concrete pipes we have in the yards. The kids use them to play King of the Hill and to hide from mom.

Sheep are more docile about it all. So it’s hot, so it’s cold. They never seem to notice. Their wool is really filling in so I am expecting to see the predicted cold winter. The ladies in both groups are showing signs of pregnancy. Goat and sheep operate under the same set of rules about delivering babies – wait until the weather is at its worst to pop them out.

Speaking of babies, it turns out our India and Roper didn’t successfully mate a couple of months ago. They put on a good pretense but didn’t produce the wanted results. They are still best friends and we have hopes for the future, however, India did play it up. She seemed moody, nesting in particular parts of the barn and her appetite wasn’t as good as we expected. We drew the line at going out for pickles and ice cream but she did enjoy some special treats because of what we thought was “her condition”.  Oh well, next time.

We welcome visitors during the holidays. Feel free to come out and bring your guests to see the critters. You can give us a call at 850-997-6599 or text at 850-508-2607 to let us know when you want to come by.

………….and it is now time to wish everyone a Happy New Year  –  a grand goodbye to 2013 and hello to 2014.
