Wool Skirting & Processing Workshop

Bag of sheep wool

Written by: Golden Acres Ranch
March 14, 2020

We just sheared our sheep and the next step is ‘skirting’ the wool. We’re making an entire wool-prep lesson day for it. Do you want to know how to process your raw wool – for your own use or for sale? Join Bobbie, Jennifer and Michelle here at Golden Acres Ranch to practice, socialize ( at a distance! ) and learn.

(You can pitch in or just watch. Skirting does mean removing the poop from the wool! We’ll have gloves. )

We’ll share information about processing wool all the way to the spinning stage. We recently toured Pioneer Fiber Mill, a high quality natural fiber yarn manufacturer in New Smyrna Beach. We have lots to share about their process and products.

You’ll get to see the new lambs and goats as well while you’re here.

Raw wool from our sheep
Freshly sheared wool from the sheep here at the ranch.

We are practicing the COVID-19 Protocol, so no hand shaking, hugging and such. We’ll set up tables for social distancing and will have hand washing stations available.
