We expanded our “on location” Country Store. Mayhaw Jelly, Pindo Palm, Cranberry Sauce, Muscadine Grape, and some Blueberry Jam are a few of the mainstays.
We carry local honey from Full Moon Farms. There are USDA-certified lamb and goat chops, roasts, ground, organs and Merguez Sausage (lamb sausage).
We’ll will be giving out samples of the jellies and sausage through the Farm Tour weekend. Sorry no eggs. The girls are on strike again. They do that molting every fall and stop laying eggs for a while. I’m never sure how long “a while” is. It just seems like forever when we are waiting for those precious eggs.
There will be a few baked good available by the piece or whole. Mayhaw Cake and this year Pindo Palm Cake. I might even try a few specialty breads.
Now who knows what a Pindo Palm is? It is that palm tree that everyone planted for landscaping. because it grows so tall and is beautiful swaying in the wind.
However, every year just before fall, it fruits and drops mushy orange things on the ground that draw flies, mosquitoes, ants and other unsavory bugs.
Its main purpose is not to aggravate you, it actually produces an edible date. We use it to make jelly, cake and bread although it can be eaten fresh from the tree on your cereal or as a colorful addition to a salad.
We’ll look forward to seeing many of you again this year and welcome all who have not ventured out before. We are here both Saturday and Sunday.
