Photo of Pindo palm fruits |Last year I tested the market for the Pindo Palm Jelly. That’s the tree that is sometimes called the Date Palm, Jelly Palm or Wine Palm. ¬†Wikipedia has some information and references on this feather palm. According to Wikipedia, “Ripe fruit are about the size of a cherry and yellowish orange in size. The taste is very forceful. It’s a mixture of pineapple, apricot and vanilla. It’s extremely tart and sweet, with a flesh kind of like a hard pineapple.”

Our Pindo Palm Jelly is available again, so you can find out for yourself. We’ve been listing it on the Red Hills Online Market and will have some for taste tasting at Johnston’s Meat Market in September at the local Jefferson County Artisans and Growers Market. It is usually the first Saturday of the month but that is Labor Day weekend so it may be moved to September 8 instead. I’ll have the firm date in the next newsletter. So stay tuned…
