Illustration of Dewberries | I’ll be there this week but not next week. There will be jelly of all kinds also. Come by and try some Mayhaw Cake. I’m going blackberry picking (at a secret location) here in Jefferson County in the next few days. Did some dewberry gathering a few weeks ago, however, my first try at jelly was a disaster. I’ll be trying again in the next few days with a perfected recipe. Hopefully, I will have learned something before I get to the blackberry jelly/jam. I’m told the dewberry is just an early version of the blackberry. We’ll see.

Now a friend and neighbor, Mr. Gallon, has some of the nicest squash, snap beans and new potatoes in his garden. He is great at raising but not always available to come to market. I’ll be bringing some of these items with me just to test the market. I bought some for myself last weekend and it was some good fresh eating.  Oh, by the way, I may have a few cherry tomatoes, unusual varieties, of my own to bring with me. You can taste a sample. I’ve put in a bunch of plants out by the blueberry bushes and have some in pots on the deck. They are ripening nicely.

The USDA has a Farmers Market Search for all over the United States. Give this link a try for your own area. The link lets you look for farmers markets by location, products available, and payments accepted. Find your local farmers market

Next week, May 31,  I’ll be going to a Farm Bureau-sponsored State and National Candidates forum in Mayo. I  like to meet and hear all the candidates in person when I can. This is my chance and gives me plenty of time for further research.
