Past
I did participate in the Turkey Hill Farm Tomato Feastival again this year. We had great weather and it was well attended. That Louise, Herman, family and friends really know how to put on a party. There’s the cake walk, silent auction, potluck dinner and lots of vendors. They always have a Best Tomato contest but the fun one is the Ugliest Tomato event. I don’t care how ugly a homegrown tomato is, it will taste delicious. Now scientists are trying to isolate the gene that makes homegrown tomatoes taste so good unlike the pretty shippable tasteless tomato sold at the grocery store.

Present
Golden Acres Ranch is listing product on the Red Hills Online Market every week. Eggs, lamb and goat meat and specialty jelly. The warm weather is slowing down egg production and we have about three more months before the youngest pullets start laying. The goat and lamb meat is selling well also. We’re looking to late August before harvesting again.

Future
New Leaf Market Farm Tour will be October 20 and 21. We’ll be putting out a great deal more information but mark those dates on your calendar. Our plan is to have a Farm-to-Table event on Sunday evening. This will be reservation only, under a tent in case of rain, with local food and drink. Wear your boots, jeans and cowboy shirt but plan on a glamorous evening by candle light and fine home cooking.
